1. Start of verification
1. Check to see if there are any recent repair entries in the service book that could indicate a fault, and if any scheduled maintenance is due.
2. Open the hood and check the following:
- Are the electrical wiring connectors tightly connected?
- whether the electrical wiring is laid correctly, not pinched or cut;
- Are the vacuum hoses connected tightly, are they pinched, are there any cracks?
- are there any leaks from hoses and tubes;
- Is the air cleaner clogged?
- gaskets
3. Make sure that electrical consumers are turned off and there are no mechanical loads:
- headlights are off;
- the air conditioner is turned off;
- rear window defroster is off;
- the steering wheel is in a position corresponding to straight-line movement, etc.
4. Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature gauge needle moves to the middle of the scale.
- Make sure the engine speed is below 1000 rpm.
5. Run the engine at about 2000 rpm for about 2 minutes without load.
6. Using the CONSULT-III tester or GST scanner, verify that no DTCs are displayed on the display.
Is a DTC displayed?
Yes - Go to step 2.
No - Go to step 3.
2. Repair or replace
- Repair or replace components according to the appropriate «Diagnostic procedure». Go to step 3.
3. Check the set speed x. X.
1. Run the engine at about 2000 rpm for about 2 minutes without load.
2. Increase engine speed two or three times (from 2000 to 3000 rpm) without load, then run the engine at idle speed for about 1 minute.
3. Check idle speed. See below for the procedure. Are the test results normal?
Yes - Go to step 9.
No - Go to step 4.
4. Teach the accelerator pedal release position
1. Stop the engine.
2. Carry out training in the released position of the accelerator pedal. See below.
Go to step 5.
5. Teach the throttle position closed.
See below. Go to step 6.
6. Check the specified idle speed again.
1. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
2. Check the speed x. X. See below for the procedure. Are the test results normal?
Yes - Go to step 9.
No - Go to step 7.
7. Identify the faulty component
Check the following:
- Camshaft Angle Sensor (PHASE) and chain.
- Crank angle sensor (POS) and chain.
Are the test results normal?
Yes - Go to step 8.
No - Repair or replace. Then go to step 4.
8. Check ECM operation
1. To test ECM operation, replace it with a known-good unit. (The ECM may be the cause of the problem, although it is unlikely).
2. Initialize the NATS system and register the ID codes of all NATS ignition keys.
Go to step 4.
9. Check the ignition timing
1. Let the engine run at idle speed.
2. Check the ignition timing using a strobe light.
Execution procedure see below.
Are the test results normal?
Yes - Go to step 17.
No - Go to step 10.
10. Teach the accelerator pedal release position
1. Stop the engine.
2. Carry out training in the released position of the accelerator pedal. See below.
Go to step 11.
11. Teach closed throttle position
See below.
Go to step 12.
12. Check the specified idle speed again.
1. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
2 Check idle speed.
Execution procedure see below.
Are the test results normal?
Yes - Go to step 13.
No - Go to step 15.
13. Check the ignition timing again
1. Let the engine run at idle speed.
2. Check the ignition timing using a strobe light.
Execution procedure see below.
Are the test results normal?
Yes - Go to step 17.
No - Go to step 14.
14. Check timing chain installation
Check the timing chain installation. See chapter «Mechanical part of the engine».
Are the test results normal?
Yes - Go to step 15.
No - Correct deficiencies in timing chain installation. Then go to step 4.
15. Identify the faulty component
Check the following:
- Camshaft Angle Sensor (PHASE) and chain.
- Crank angle sensor (POS) and chain.
Are the test results normal?
Yes - Go to step 16.
No - Repair or replace. Then go to step 4
16. Check ECM operation
1. To test ECM operation, replace it with a known-good unit. (Although unlikely, the ECM may be the cause of the problem).
2. Initialize the NATS system and register the ID codes of all NATS ignition keys.
Go to step 4.
17. End of check
If during the procedure «Basic checks» The ECM has been replaced, see additional information below.
If you replace the ECM, perform the following steps:
1. Initialize the NATS system and register the ID codes of all NATS ignition keys.
Go to step 2.
2. Carry out training in the released position of the accelerator pedal.
See below.
Go to step 3.
3. Teach the throttle position closed.
See below.
End
