2. Relieve fuel pressure. See chapter "Engine management system".
3. Remove the ignition coils and you will have the spark plugs back on all cylinders. See below.
4. Connect the tachometer (not required when using the CONSULT-II tester).
5. Screw in the compression gauge (IN) into the spark plug hole using an adapter (A) (suitable special tools).
- Use a compression tester adapter with a tip diameter of less than 20 mm. Otherwise, when turning it out, it may get stuck in the cylinder head.
6. Fully depress the accelerator pedal, turn the ignition key to the START position and turn the crankshaft. When the compression gauge needle calms down, read the compression pressure and engine speed.
Compression pressure. See section below «Technical data and specifications».
Attention. To achieve the required engine speed, always use a fully charged battery.
- If the engine speed is different from the norm, check the specific gravity of the electrolyte in the battery. Check engine speed again with normal electrolyte density.
- If the compression pressure is below the minimum value, check the valve clearances and components related to the combustion chamber (valve, valve seat, piston, piston ring, cylinder wall, cylinder head, cylinder head gasket). After checking, measure the compression again.
- If some cylinders have low compression, pour a small amount of engine oil into the ignition port of that cylinder and recheck the compression.
- If compression increases after adding engine oil, the piston rings may be worn or damaged. Check the piston rings and replace if necessary. If, despite adding engine oil, the compression pressure remains low, the valves may be faulty. Check whether the valves are damaged. Replace the valve or valve seat accordingly. If two adjacent cylinders have low compression pressure and remain low even after adding engine oil, there is a gasket leak. In this case, replace the cylinder head gasket.
7. Upon completion of the check, install the removed components in the reverse order of removal.
8. Start the engine and make sure it runs normally.
