Checking the drive belt
1. Generator; 2. Automatic drive belt tensioner; 3. Crankshaft pulley; 4. Air conditioning compressor (on models with air conditioning); Tensioner pulley (on models without air conditioning); 5. Water pump; 6. Drive belt; A. Range of possible operation; B. Range when installing a new drive belt; C. Index.
Attention:
- Carry out the test with the engine not running.
- Make sure the pointer (notch on the fixed part) on the automatic drive belt tensioner is within the range of possible operation (A) in the picture.
Note:
- Check the location of the automatic tensioner indicator on a cold engine.
- When installing a new drive belt, the indicator (notch on the fixed part) must be within range (IN) in the picture.
- Visually inspect the entire belt to ensure there is no wear, damage or cracks.
- If the pointer (notch on the fixed part) is outside the permissible operating range or the belt is damaged, replace the drive belt.
Tension adjustment
See section below "Technical data and specifications".
Removal and installation
Removal
1. Securely fix the automatic tensioner (1) behind the hexagonal part (A) key, turn the key handle in the direction of the arrow (tensioner loosening direction).
Attention. Do not place your hand in a place where it could become pinched if the locking tool accidentally comes off.
2. Insert a rod with a diameter of approx. 6 mm e.g. screwdriver into hole (IN) retaining protrusion and secure the automatic tensioner.
- After removing the drive belt, lock the tensioner pulley lever.
3. Remove the drive belt.
Installation
1. Put on the drive belt.
- Make sure the belt is completely seated on the pulleys.
- Make sure the drive belt and pulley grooves are free of any engine oil, fluid or engine coolant.
2. Release the tensioner and tighten the belt.
3. Rotate the crankshaft pulley clockwise several times and equalize the tension between all pulleys.
4. Make sure the belt tension is as indicated (notches on the fixed part) is within the permissible operating range. See above.
