Checking appearance and noise
- Check for nicks or cracks on the driveshaft tube. If necessary, replace the driveshaft assembly.
- If the center bearing makes unusual noise or is damaged, replace the driveshaft assembly.
Vibration test
- If vibration is felt when driving at high speed, first check the driveshaft runout.
1. While turning the connecting flange of the main gear by hand, measure the runout of the propeller shaft at several points.
Limit.
Driveshaft runout: See chapter "Power transmission".
2. If the runout still exceeds the specified limit, separate the propeller shaft from the connecting flange of the final drive or transfer case, then reconnect by rotating the connecting flange 90, 180 and 270°.
3. Check runout again. If it is still above the specified limit, replace the driveshaft assembly.
4. Check for vibration by driving the car.
