Checking the serviceability of warning lamps and indicators
With all vehicle doors closed, apply the parking brake, fasten your seat belts, and turn the ignition key to the ON position without starting the engine. The following warning lights should come on (if any):
Warning lights and indicators shown below (if any) lights up briefly and then goes out:
If any warning lamp or indicator does not light up during the test, this may indicate a burnt-out lamp or a break in the corresponding electrical circuit.
Warning lamps
Anti-lock braking system warning lamp (ABS)
- After turning the ignition key to the ON position, this indicator light comes on and goes out after a while. This means that the ABS system is working properly.
- If the ABS warning light does not go off when the engine is running or comes on while driving, this may indicate a malfunction of the anti-lock braking system and a need to check it. Contact a service station to have the ABS checked.
- If a malfunction occurs in the ABS, its anti-lock braking function is disabled. The brake system remains fully operational. However, the system will not be able to prevent the wheels from locking when braking.
Automatic transmission fault warning lamp (versions with automatic transmission) (if available)
- This warning light comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and then goes off.
- If the automatic transmission malfunction indicator lamp does not go out after starting the engine, or lights up while driving, this may indicate a malfunction of the automatic transmission. To check and repair the system, contact a service station.
Brake system warning lamp
This warning light/indicator indicates that the parking brake is not released, the brake fluid level in the reservoir is low, and the anti-lock braking system is malfunctioning.
Parking brake indicator.
- The indicator lights up after turning the ignition key to the ON position. When the engine is running and the parking brake is released, the brake warning light goes off.
- If the parking brake is not fully released, the brake system warning light remains on. Before driving, make sure that the brake system warning light goes off.
Warning lamp for low brake fluid level.
- If the brake warning light comes on while the engine is running or while driving and the parking brake is applied, the brake fluid level in the reservoir may be low.
- If the brake system warning light comes on while driving, stop as soon as possible. Stop the engine and check the brake fluid level. If the brake fluid level has dropped below the minimum level, add the required amount of brake fluid to bring it up to normal.
- If the brake fluid level is not correct, you should immediately contact a service station.
Anti-lock braking system warning lamp (ABS).
- If, when the parking brake is applied and the brake fluid level is normal, the warning lamps for the brake and anti-lock braking systems continue to light, this may indicate a failure of the ABS system. To check and repair the system, contact a service station.
Battery discharge warning lamp
- This warning light comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and goes off after the engine is started. This indicates that the battery charging system is working properly.
- If the warning light does not go off while the engine is running or while driving, this may indicate a problem with the battery charging system and should be checked.
- If the warning light comes on while driving, you should stop as soon as possible. Stop the engine and check the condition of the alternator drive belt. If the alternator drive belt is under tensioned, damaged, or missing, the battery charging system requires repair.
- If the alternator drive belt is in order, but the warning lamp continues to light, then the charging system should be checked at a service station.
Warning lamp of an open door
- Lights up if one of the car doors is not closed or not closed tightly.
Electric power steering fault warning lamp
- This warning light comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and goes off after the engine is started. This means that the electric power steering is working properly.
- If the warning light comes on while the engine is running, there may be a problem with the electric power steering. Contact a service station to have the electric power steering checked.
- If the warning light comes on while the engine is running, this indicates that the electric power steering has stopped working. However, control over the vehicle's steering is maintained. This will result in increased steering force, especially on sharp turns and at low speeds.
Low engine oil pressure warning light
- This warning light comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and goes off after the engine is started. This means that the engine oil pressure sensors are working properly.
- If the warning lamp lights up or flashes while the engine is running, this may indicate that the oil pressure in the engine lubrication system is too low. Stop the car as soon as possible, turn off the engine and contact a service station.
All-wheel drive system malfunction warning lamp (4WD) (all-wheel drive versions)
- This warning light comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and goes off when the engine is started.
- If a malfunction occurs in the 4WD system, as well as when there is a significant difference in the rotation speeds or rolling radii of the front and rear wheels, the all-wheel drive system malfunction indicator lamp will light up constantly or flash.
System indicator lamp «Intelligent Key» (if available)
- If the ignition key was not turned to the LOCK position, but was left in the OFF position, the system warning lamp «Intelligent Key» will start flashing red. At the same time, the system sound signal will turn on "Intelligent Key". The warning lamp will flash until the ignition key is turned to the LOCK or ACC position.
- On vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, the maximum duration of flashing of the warning lamp is 5 minutes. After this time it will go out.
If the beep sounds and the system warning light flashes "Intelligent Key".
- Make sure that the automatic transmission selector lever is in the P position and the ignition key is in the LOCK position.
- Turn the ignition key to ACC position.
System malfunction warning lamp "Intelligent Key" (if available)
- If the indicator lamp lights up green, this means that the ignition key is unlocked and can be turned. If it lights up red, this indicates that the ignition key is blocked and cannot be turned even with the brake pedal depressed.
- If the key «Intelligent Key» was removed from the vehicle after the ignition key was left in the ACC or ON position, the system warning lamp "Intelligent Key" will start flashing red.
- After the key «Intelligent Key» again inside the vehicle, the warning light should go out after about 10 seconds.
- If the system warning lamp "Intelligent Key" flashes green, this indicates that the key battery is almost completely discharged «Intelligent Key».
Low fuel level warning lamp
- This warning light comes on when the fuel supply drops to the minimum level. Fill the tank as soon as possible, without waiting for the indicator arrow to reach position E («Empty tank»)
- The position of arrow E corresponds to the beginning of the reserve fuel supply in the tank.
Warning lamp for unfastened seat belt
- This warning lamp warns that the driver's or front passenger's seat belt is not fastened. It lights up when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and goes out if the driver and front passenger fasten their seat belts.
- As soon as the vehicle speed exceeds 25 km/h, the warning light will start flashing. Additionally, an audible warning signal will sound. The warning light and beep will continue to flash until the seat belt is securely fastened. The maximum beep time when the seat belt is not fastened is approximately 90 seconds.
- After turning on the ignition, the red warning lights for the rear seat belts not fastened will light up on the center console.
- The warning lamps will remain illuminated until the appropriate seat belt is fastened and will automatically turn off approximately 35 seconds after the engine is started.
Airbag system malfunction warning lamp (SRS)
- After turning the ignition key to the ON or START position, this warning light should come on for approximately 7 seconds and then go off. This means that the airbag system is working properly.
- It is necessary to immediately check the airbag system and seat belt pretensioners at a service station in the following cases: the warning lamp remains on after 7 seconds, flashes continuously or does not light up at all.
Engine system malfunction warning lamp (MI or MIL)
- This warning light comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and goes off after the engine is started. This means that the engine control system is working properly.
The control lamp is constantly on.
This indicates a malfunction of the engine management system. To check and repair the system, contact a service station. You can get to the service station on your own without having to tow the car.
The indicator light flashes.
The engine runs rough, which can damage the engine management system. To check and repair the system, contact a service station.
To avoid or reduce the risk of damage to the engine management system, follow these instructions:
- Do not exceed speed more than 70 km/h.
- Avoid sudden acceleration and braking.
- Avoid driving on steep inclines.
- Avoid carrying heavy loads and towing a trailer.
Indicator lamp for deterioration of road adhesion properties (if available)
- This warning lamp comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and then goes off. This indicates the serviceability of the dynamic stabilization system (ESP).
- A flashing warning light indicates activation of the ESP system.
- If the warning light flashes while driving, this indicates a deterioration in the traction properties of the road surface and that the vehicle's wheels are at the limit of their traction capabilities.
- If the ESP off warning light and the road traction warning light come on while the engine is running or while driving, this may indicate that the ESP system is faulty. To check and repair the system, contact a service station.
Indicators
Cruise control indicator (if available)
- This indicator indicates that the cruise control system is engaged.
- When the cruise control main switch is turned on, this indicator will illuminate to indicate that the cruise control system is in standby mode.
Cruise control system installation indicator (if available)
- This indicator shows the status of the cruise control system.
- It lights up when the cruise control system takes control of the vehicle's speed.
- If the cruise control system indicator flashes while the engine is running or begins to flash while driving, this may indicate a malfunction of the cruise control system and the need for repair. To check and repair the system, immediately contact a service station.
Indicator for disabling the ESP dynamic stabilization system (if available)
- This indicator lights up after the dynamic stabilization system is turned off.
- To disable the ESP system, you must turn the ESP system switch to the OFF position.
- If the ESP system shutdown warning light and the road grip warning light come on while the engine is running or while driving, this may indicate that the ESP system is faulty and requires repair. To check and repair the system, contact a service station.
AUTO mode indicator for all-wheel drive system (4WD) (all-wheel drive versions)
- This indicator comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and then goes off. When the engine is running, this indicator lights up if the 4WD AUTO mode is engaged.
LOCK mode indicator for all-wheel drive system (4WD) (all-wheel drive versions)
- This indicator comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and then goes off. When the engine is running, this indicator and the 4WD system mode indicator (AUTO) turn on if 4WD LOCK mode is selected
Fog light indicator (if available)
- This indicator lights up when the fog lights are turned on.
Headlight high beam indicator
- This indicator lights up when you turn on the high beam headlights and goes out when you turn on the low beam headlights.
Hill descent control activation indicator (HDC) (if available)
- After turning on the ignition, the indicated indicator should light up and go out after a short time. This means that the HDC system is working properly.
- The inclusion of this indicator indicates the activation of the controlled descent system (HDC).
- If the descent control system is turned on and the indicator is flashing, the HDC system is not functioning.
- For vehicles equipped with a manual transmission: if the coolant temperature is below normal, the HDC system may turn off. In this case, its indicator will blink. It is possible to reactivate the HDC system after the coolant reaches operating temperature.
- If the indicator does not light up or flashes when the NOS system is turned on, this indicates a possible system malfunction. Contact a service station to have the system checked and repaired.
Rear fog light indicator
- This indicator lights up when the rear fog light is turned on.
Security alarm system indicator
- This indicator flashes when the ignition key is turned to the LOCK, OFF or ACC position. This function indicates that the NATS security system (NISSAN Anti-Theft System) (immobilizer), with which the car is equipped is in good condition.
- If the normal functioning of the NATS system is disrupted, the indicator will remain on as long as the ignition key is in the ON position.
SPORT mode indicator (if available)

Indicator for turning on turn signals and hazard warning lights
- This indicator flashes when the turn signal or hazard warning lights are on.
Audible warning signals
Acoustic signal for brake pad wear (if available)
- If the brake pads require replacement, then when the car is moving, they make a high-pitched grinding sound, regardless of whether the brake pedal is pressed or not. To check and repair the system, contact a service station.
System beep «Intelligent Key» (if available)
- System beep "Intelligent Key» starts to sound if the ignition key was not turned to the LOCK position when the doors were locked.
- The smart key was left inside the vehicle when the doors were locked.
- The key remained in the ignition after the doors were locked.
- One of the doors was not tightly closed when locked.
- If you hear this beep, be sure to check the condition of the vehicle and the location of the key «Intelligent Key».
Sound signal of ignition key left
- This signal is activated if the central locking system switch is pressed while the driver's door is open and the ignition key is left in the ACC, OFF or LOCK position. Always remove the key from the ignition and take it with you when leaving the vehicle.
Sound signal for lights not turned off
- This signal turns on for 10 seconds if the driver's door is open, the exterior lights are not turned off, and the ignition key is in the ACC, OFF or LOCK position.
- The signal will also turn on for two seconds if the ignition key is turned to the OFF position with the fog lights on and the headlight switch in the AUTO position.
- When leaving the vehicle, make sure that you turn the headlight switch to the OFF position.
Parking brake horn
- This sound signal sounds if you start driving the vehicle with the parking brake applied.
