Case
Check for cracks. Replace if necessary.
Steering gear housing assembly
Check for damage and scratches (on the inner walls). Replace if necessary.
Outer and inner tie rod ends
Check the following settings. If they are different from the norm, replace the corresponding component.
Moment of swing of ball joints
Hook the dynamometer at the point shown in the illustration and pull it. Make sure that the reading when the ball joint tip and inner tie rod end begin to move is within normal limits. If the reading is different from the norm, replace the outer and inner tie rod ends.
Standard values for outer tip.
(Measuring point hole for cotter pin on tip).
- Rocking moment: See section below «Technical data and specifications».
- Dynamometer measurement: See section below «Technical data and specifications».
Standard values for inner tip.
(Measuring point at a distance «*», as shown in the picture)
- Rocking moment: See section below «Technical data and specifications».
- Dynamometer measurement: See section below «Technical data and specifications».
Axial play of ball joints
Apply a load of 490 N (50 kg) to the ball joint tip in the axial direction. Using an indicator, measure the amount of movement the tip makes. Make sure the reading is within the normal limits shown below. If the value differs from the norm, replace the outer (1) and internal (2) tie rod ends.
Standard:
- Outer tip: See section below «Technical data and specifications».
- Inner tip: See section below «Technical data and specifications».
