Removal and installation
Removal
- 1. Set the front wheels to a straight-ahead position.
- 2. Remove the intermediate shaft mounting bolt (from the bottom) and separate the intermediate shaft from the steering worm shaft.
- 3. Using a wrench, remove the wheels.
- 4. Press the outer tie rod end out of the steering knuckle using a suitable ball joint puller so as not to damage the ball joint boot.
Attention. To avoid damaging the threads and causing the ball joint remover to come off, tighten the nut by hand.
5. Remove the front suspension beam.
6. Remove the steering gear assembly.
Installation
Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:
Attention. If you turn the steering wheel while separating the steering column from the steering gear, the spiral wire may come off. To prevent this from happening, secure the steering wheel with a rope.
- If removing the steering gear assembly, perform final tightening of the nuts and bolts on all components while the vehicle is unloaded and with the wheels on the ground. Check the wheel alignment angles. See chapter «Front axle and suspension».
- After checking the front wheel alignment, adjust the neutral position of the steering angle sensor.
