Removal and installation
Removal
1. Remove the front pillar trim. See section above «Interior equipment».
2. Partially remove the ceiling (leading edge). See section above «Interior equipment».
3. Remove the windshield wiper arms.
4. Remove the hood grille cover. See section below «Exterior equipment».
5. To avoid surface damage, apply protective tape (A) around the area where the luggage rack is attached.
6. After removing the moldings, remove the glass using a string wire or electric cutter (A) and an inflatable bag (IN).
Note. If you are reinstalling the windshield, mark the body and glass.
Attention:
- When cutting glass from a car, wear safety glasses and thick gloves to prevent glass shards from getting into your eyes or injuring your hands.
- When reusing the windshield, do not use a knife or power cutter.
- Be careful not to scratch the glass during removal.
- Do not place the glass on its end. Small chips can turn into cracks.
Installation
- The rubber partition and insulator should be replaced.
- Use Nissan Genuine Urethane Adhesive Kit (if available) or equivalent and follow the instructions supplied with it.
- While the urethane adhesive is curing, lower the glass in one of the doors. This will prevent «extrusion» windshield under the influence of air pressure inside the car when the door is closed.
- The molding should be installed tightly so that it fits correctly and leaves no gaps.
- The vehicle should not be driven until the urethane adhesive has completely cured (at least 24 hours). Curing time depends on temperature and humidity.
Attention:
- Primers and adhesives are flammable. Do not store them close to a source of heat or open flame.
- Do not swallow the materials included in this kit; they are harmful to health and may cause skin and eye irritation. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
- Carry out work in an open, well-ventilated place, do not inhale fumes. They can cause harm to health. If the vapor gets into your respiratory tract, immediately go out into fresh air.
- Driving your vehicle before the urethane adhesive has fully cured may affect the performance of the windshield in the event of an accident.
- Adjust the stop position of the arms and clean the windshield adhesive. See chapter «Driver-controlled instruments».
- Do not use glue that has expired. The glue has a shelf life of six months from the date of manufacture. Please note the expiration date or production date printed on the packaging.
- Store primers and adhesives in a cool, dry place. Ideally, they should be kept in the refrigerator.
- Do not leave primer or adhesive tubes unattended with the cap unscrewed or removed.
- The vehicle should not be driven for at least 24 hours or until the urethane adhesive has completely cured. Curing time depends on temperature and humidity. The lower the temperature and lower the humidity, the longer the curing time.
Examination
Eliminating water seepage on the windshield
- Water seepage can be eliminated without removing and reinstalling the glass.
- If water is leaking between the urethane adhesive and the body or glass, determine the length of the leak. This can be done by pouring water and pressing outward on the glass.
- To stop the leak, first apply a primer to the leaking area (if necessary), and then urethane glue.
