Differential oil seal
1. Drain the transmission oil.
2. Remove the fender liner.
3. Disconnect the drive shafts as follows. Separate the outer tie rod ball joint from the hub fastener, loosen the suspension strut upper mounting nuts, and unscrew the three plate nuts to separate the hub fastener (and ball joint of the lower arm of the front suspension) from the lower arm. Remove the three support bearing bolts (right drive shaft. 1.8 and 2.0 liter models only). Disconnect the drive shaft from the transmission, unfold the entire assembly (wheel, strut, hub hanger and drive shaft) so that the inner end of the drive wool moves away from the gear.
4. Remove the oil seal, being careful not to scratch or damage the oil seal socket. If it is difficult to remove, you can use a special tool, as shown in Fig. 6.4.

5. Lubricate the new oil seal with clean oil and insert it into the seat.
6. Before installing the drive shaft, check the surface of the protective rubber boots.
7. Clean and lubricate the drive shaft to protect the seal lips during installation. See Section 8.
8. Fill the gearbox with oil.

9. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.
10. On 1.6 liter models, remove the transmission cover, remove the driven shaft, input shaft and turn over the idler gear assembly. Push out the seal.
11. On all other models, remove the gear cover and reverse gear and selector components, and remove the input and output shafts. Remove the seal.
12. Lubricate the new oil seal with clean oil.
13. Before installing the input shaft, check it for burrs, scratches or other damage that could damage the seal.
14. Clean and lubricate the drive shaft to protect the seal lips during installation, then assemble the gearbox as described in the appropriate Chapter of this Section. Selector oil seal
15. Disconnect the gear selector rod from the selector rod yoke.
16. Push out the roll pin securing the yoke to the end of the rod (Pic. 6.5). Remove the yoke and rubber boot.
