Automatic transmission, installed on 1.8 and 2.0 liter models and includes a torque converter, which replaces the clutch on manual transmission models, and a pair of planetary gears, which are hydraulically actuated by a multi-plate clutch and an auxiliary servo brake, for selecting three forward with a fourth overdrive, and reverse gear. A differential is also built into the assembly.
The mechanism selector is installed in the central console and has six positions: "R" (A park), "R" (Reverse), "N" (Neutral), "D" (Movement), "2" And "1". The engine can only be started in positions "R" or "N" (preferably "R"). To prevent accidental starting of the engine in other positions, an inhibitor switch and a relay through which the starter is connected are installed.
The transmission fluid is cooled through a heat exchanger. The contents of this Chapter are limited to maintenance procedures that can be performed by the owner. Any repair work should only be performed by a Nissan dealer or automatic transmission technician who has the service equipment and skills required to perform the work.
