Engine won't start
2. Check the battery and starter first (Chapter 7, paragraph 1).
3. Connect an inductive strobe light to each spark plug harness and rotate the engine.
(A) If there is a glow, the voltage reaches the candle; check the spark plugs.
(b) If there is no glow, go to the next step.
4. Inspect the spark plug wiring, distributor cap, and distributor slider (Chapters 2 and 4).
5. If the engine still does not start, check the ignition coil (see Chapter 13).
6. If the high voltage circuit is in good condition and the ignition system still does not work, the fault must be in the low voltage circuit.
7. Using a multimeter, check whether there is contact between terminal No. 3 (disconnected) ECCS control unit connector and power transistor connector, then between terminal #5 of each connector. Check the transistor itself (Chapter 14).
8. If no damage is found, contact your Nissan dealer. Do not attempt to test the ECCS control unit.
Engine misfires
9. Be guided Chapter 7, but note that all testing of individual parts must be performed by a Nissan dealer. You can use the self-diagnosis system (Section 3). As a general rule, always check first (replacement if necessary) spark plugs, high-voltage wiring, distributor cap and distributor slider.
