The fuel filter is designed to clean fuel from foreign particles and moisture. A manual fuel pump is also installed in the fuel filter housing, with which you can pump the system to fill it with fuel when the engine is not running or to remove air from the system, and a sensor for the amount of water accumulated in the filter housing, which turns on the filter indicator light on the instrument panel when accumulation in a water filter in an amount of about 140 ml. The blinking of this warning light when turning corners or its steady glow while the engine is running warns the driver of the need to drain the water from the fuel filter and then remove air from the system.
As spare parts, the filter is usually supplied without a sensor, since Japanese companies allow the use of a previously installed sensor with another filter. To drain water from the fuel filter, place a suitable container under it, unscrew the drain plug a few turns and drain the water until clean fuel comes out of the drain hole. After draining the water, be sure to bleed the system to remove air from it. To do this, unscrew the air release plug on the filter cover, unscrew the manual pumping handle and pump the system until clean fuel without air bubbles comes out of the air evacuation hole.
Without stopping pumping, tighten the air release plug. The system can also be bled by towing the car with the gear engaged. In this case, pumping is carried out more efficiently. The presence of air in the system leads to uneven engine operation, which is eliminated after bleeding the system. To replace the filter, remove it using a special tool, remove the sensor from it, install the sensor on the new filter and install the new filter.
