Examination
1. Engine (And) The cooling fan is powered directly from the battery through a fuse link and relay. This relay (fan motor) - powered by switching voltage coming from the battery and fuse link to the ignition relay (which is independently supplied with switching voltage from the ignition switch) and from there to the 10 Amp fuse. Through this fuse that is actually labeled as the rear fog light system (heated rear window), power is supplied to the thermal switch installed on the radiator.
2. If a fan malfunction is suspected, start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature, then set it to idle. If the fan does not turn on within a few minutes, turn off the engine and disconnect the two wires from the thermal switch. Connect the two wires with a jumper and turn on the ignition. If the fan now works, the thermal switch may be faulty and further testing should be performed (see Chapter 12).
3. If the fan still does not work, check that there is battery voltage on the two wires. If not, check the fuse and relay for good condition (see Section 12), or damage to the electrical wiring. If voltage is present, the fan motor is faulty:
4. The fan motor can be directly checked by disconnecting it from the electrical wiring braid and connecting 12 volt power directly to it. On vehicles with two-speed fans, remember to check not only the thermal switches, but also the resistance block mounted at the end of the motor using an ohmmeter. There should be some resistance, but it should not be too small (short circuit) neither too big (open circuit). The resistance block can be replaced separately.
Removal and installation
5. On Turbo models, loosen the clamps securing the air intake and jet muffler assembly to the air flow meter and turbogenerator, unscrew the assembly mounting brackets from the front body panel and disconnect the breather hose from the rocker cover. Remove the assembly and use a clean, lint-free cloth to wipe the holes in the air flow meter and turbo generator.
6. On all vehicles, disconnect the negative battery cable.
7. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the engine (to her) cooling fan.
8. Unscrew the cooling fan and shroud or suspension assembly and remove them from the rear of the radiator.
9. The fan can be removed from the motor shaft by unscrewing the screws or nut.
10. Installation - carried out in the reverse order of removal.
