1. If the starter stops working properly, first check the condition of the battery, including the headlights. If they start out bright and then gradually dim after a few seconds, the battery is low.
2. If the battery is good and charged, check the battery poles, starter main terminal and engine ground cable. Check the terminal connections on the starter relay located on the starter.
3. If the starter still does not turn enough, use a voltmeter or lamp to check for battery voltage at the terminal "IN" traction relay.
4. Turn on the ignition, set the ignition key to position "Start", voltage should be at the traction relay terminal and the main starter terminal.
5. If there is no voltage, the ignition socket or wiring is damaged. If there is voltage but the starter does not operate, the starter or relay is faulty.
6. If the relay is working properly, you can hear its action.
7. If the starter works, but the engine does not turn over, the clutch is probably damaged. The starter must be removed for repair.
8. If the starter fires, but remains engaged, after releasing the key or starting the engine, the gear or lever of the traction relay becomes stuck. The starter must be removed for repair.
