Note: This Chapter covers the removal and installation of the caliper assembly as a separate unit. If the caliper has been disassembled, see the procedures described below. Before you start, please read the note at the beginning previous Chapter regarding the hazards of asbestos dust.
1. Place the car on a level surface using the handbrake and select reverse gear first (manual transmission) or "R" (automatic transmission). Block the front wheels. Loosen the wheel nuts, jack up the rear of the car, and support it. Remove the wheel and release the handbrake completely.
2. Unscrew the bolt securing the handbrake cable from the caliper, and disconnect the cable from the lever.
3. To minimize fluid loss, remove the master cylinder reservoir cap and use a flexible hose to drain the brake fluid.
4. Clean the area around the connection, and unscrew the flexible hose connection bolt. Remove the two seal gaskets.
5. Remove the two bolts securing the caliper mounting hanger to the trunnion connecting plate and remove the caliper assembly. Clean all installation areas.
6. Reinstallation in its original place is the reverse procedure of removal. Tighten all bolts and nuts to the specified Specifications moment. Secure the correct position of the flexible hoses before clamping. Also position the handbrake cable on the pin before tightening the bolt.
7. If necessary, bleed the system to remove air, then check the fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir and top up if necessary. Apply the handbrake to ensure correct play adjustment.
