Handbrake lever — removal and installation

1. Remove the center console (see Section 11).

2. Loosen the handbrake adjuster locknut (where is it used) and loosen the regulator as much as possible.

3. Disconnect the handbrake warning lamp switch wiring.

4. Unscrew the handbrake lever assembly from the floor (photo).



5. If there is enough slack, it may be possible to disconnect the front end of the cable from the arm assembly from inside the vehicle. If this is not possible, raise the rear of the vehicle and support it on axle stands. Pull back the cable bushing from the dust cap of the lever assembly and disconnect the cable.

6. Installation is carried out in reverse order. But first, check that the lever latch, ratchet mechanism, cable end and compensator are lubricated. Adjust the cable as described in Chapter 2 from this Section, check the installation of the switch.
