Pic. 11.33. Air conditioning system parts
1. Air conditioning is installed as standard equipment on special-order models. It, in combination with the heater, allows you to achieve any reasonable air temperature inside the car. It also reduces the humidity of incoming air, helping to disperse fog even when cooling is not required.
2. The cooling system of the air conditioner works like a household refrigerator. The compressor, connected by a belt to the crankshaft pulley, pumps coolant in a gaseous state from the evaporator. The compressed coolant passes through the radiator, where it loses its heat and turns into a liquid state. After dehydration, the coolant returns to the evaporator where it absorbs heat from the air passing through the evaporator fins. The coolant becomes gas and the cycle repeats.
3. Various sensors protect the system from excessive temperature and pressure. The engine idle speed increases when the system is used to compensate for the load imposed by the compressor.
Precautions
4. Although coolant is not poisonous, in the presence of an open flame, highly toxic gas is generated. Coolant spilled on the skin can cause frostbite. If coolant gets into your eyes, rinse them with boric acid solution and consult a doctor immediately.
5. In view of the above and the need for specialized equipment to remove and recharge the system, leave this work to a specialist. If it is necessary to remove or disconnect a part as part of some other maintenance or repair operation, proceed as follows.
6. Never disconnect parts of the A/C coolant circuit unless the system has been discharged by a dealer or qualified coolant engineer.
7. Where the compressor or condenser makes other mechanical actions difficult, it is enough to unscrew the bolts from their fastenings and move them within the deflection of the flexible hose, but do not disconnect the hoses.
8. Upon completion, the system must be recharged.
9. Do not allow hoses with coolant to heat up to temperatures above 110°C - be extremely careful when carrying out welding work or when thermally drying the body after painting.
10. Do not use the air conditioner if you know that there is not enough coolant in the system or the system is damaged.
