Right oil seal (chain drive cover seal)
1. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
2. Carefully remove the oil seal by prying it out with a large screwdriver, being careful not to damage the oil pump gears and cover.
3. Clean the stuffing box and remove all burrs and sharp edges that could be the main cause of seal failure.
4. Lubricate the lips of the new oil seal with a light coat of grease, carefully place the oil seal in place with the lips of the lips facing inward, being careful not to damage the lips of the oil seal. Press the stuffing box with a mandrel until it stops against the collar on the periphery of the stuffing box. The diameter of the mandrel must be such that, when pressed, the mandrel rests against the outer edges of the stuffing box. When pressing in, do not damage the seal lips.
5. Remove any remaining grease, then install the crankshaft pulley.
Rear oil seal (flywheel oil seal / torque converter drive plate)
6. Remove the flywheel (or torque converter drive plate).
7. Using a large flat-blade screwdriver, pry the oil seal at the inner lip and evenly pry the oil seal out of the cylinder block without damaging the surfaces of the crankshaft and cylinder block.
8. Clean the seal site and remove any burrs and sharp edges that could cause seal failure in the first place.
9. Lubricate the sealing lips of the new oil seal and the crankshaft journal with a thin layer of grease, correctly orient the oil seal relative to the crankcase.
10. With your hands, without using any tools, carefully put the sealing lips of the stuffing box on the crankshaft journal to be sealed. Press the oil seal without distortion until the shoulder on the periphery of the oil seal stops against the ring-shaped tide on the crankcase / cylinder block. If necessary, it is allowed to upset the gland in place with light blows of a soft-faced hammer.
11. Remove any remaining grease, then install the flywheel (or torque converter drive plate).
