Cylinder head cover bolt tightening sequence
Removing
1. Disconnect the wires from the spark plugs, remove the wires from the brackets on the cylinder head cover.
2. Loosen the clamps and disconnect the crankcase suction hoses on the cylinder head cover.
3. In the reverse order shown in Fig. The sequence of tightening the cylinder head cover bolts, unscrew the cylinder head cover bolts, remove the bolts and washers.
4. Lift the cylinder head cover, remove the rubber gasket from the groove in the cover and the spark plug O-rings from the spark plug holes. On early production engines, also remove the rubber plugs inserted into the semicircular recesses in the right wall of the cylinder head. On later engines, these plugs are integral with the cylinder head cover gasket.
5. Check the condition of all rubber lid seals, replace if necessary.
Installation
1. Thoroughly clean the sealing surfaces of the cover and cylinder head, remove traces of oil.
2. Apply sealant to the semi-circular recesses of the cylinder head. On early production engines, fit both semi-circular plugs into the selections so that the flat part of the plugs is flush with the plane of the cylinder head.
3. Lay the gasket in the groove on the cover, making sure its position is correct along the entire length.
4. Install the spark plug o-rings. If necessary, fix the seals by lubricating with a thin layer of sealant.
5. Apply sealant to the gasket about 1 cm on either side of the edges of the semi-circular recess under the rear camshaft bearing journal cover.
6. Carefully install the cylinder head cover in place, while the displacement of the rubber seals of the cover is not allowed.
7. Make sure that the cover is installed correctly, tighten the bolts with washers. Tighten the cover bolts in sequence to the specified torque.
8. Attach the hoses to the cover.
9. Attach the wires to the spark plugs and insert the wires into the brackets.
