1. If there are no marks on the tips of high-voltage wires indicating that they belong to this cylinder, then apply marks from 1 to 4 (The 1st cylinder is located on the side of the timing chain). Disconnect wires by holding the lug, not the wire.
2. Before removing the spark plugs, it is recommended to remove the dirt from the recesses next to the spark plugs with a clean brush, vacuum cleaner or compressed air to avoid getting dirt into the cylinders.
3. Unscrew the candles with a special candle wrench, or a box wrench, or a socket with an extension. When unscrewing, hold the head strictly in the direction of the candle axis, otherwise, if the head is tilted, the porcelain insulator may break. Candles are recommended to be checked according to the following method.
4. By the appearance of the candle, you can quite accurately determine the condition of the engine. If the skirt of the spark plug insulator is clean and white and free of deposits, this indicates a lean fuel mixture or that the spark plug insulator has become hot (a hot candle does not remove heat from the electrode well, and on a cold candle, heat is removed quickly).
5. If the insulator and spark plug electrode are covered with black solid deposits, then this indicates an over-enriched combustible mixture. Massive oily deposits indicate that the engine is worn or running on a rich mixture.
6. If the skirt of the insulator is coated with a sandy or tan color, then the engine is in good condition and the mixture is optimal
7. The gap between the electrodes of the spark plugs is of particular importance - with an increase or decrease in the gap against the norm, the size of the spark gap and the igniting ability of the spark will significantly change. It is necessary to set the optimal gap between the electrodes, specified in subsection 2.1.
8. Before adjusting, measure the gap with a feeler gauge and bend (or fold back) outer electrode until the desired gap is obtained. It is forbidden to bend the central electrode, as the candle insulator may crack, which will cause serious damage.
9. To measure and adjust the gap, a special device is commercially available.
10. Before installing the spark plugs, make sure the threaded leads of the center electrode are strong and the threads of the spark plugs and insulator are clean, using a piece of rubber hose to wrap the spark plugs without distortion.
11. Remove the rubber hose and tighten the spark plug with a torque wrench with a special socket head. Close the rest of the candles.
12. Connect high-voltage wires in the same order, install all removed parts.
