2. With a punch (special tool) Press in the outer ring of the rear bearing of the pinion.
3. With a punch (special tool) Press in the outer race of the drive gear front bearing.
4. Apply Nissan Differential Gear Hipoid Oil Super GL-5 80W-90 to the front bearing inner race where it contacts the drive gear. Install the inner ring with a punch (special tool).
5. Install spacer.
6. Apply Nissan Differential Gear Hipoid Oil Super GL-5 80W-90 to the pinion rear bearing inner race and install the race onto the pinion clutch.
7. With a punch (special tool) press the oil seal onto the drive gear clutch.
Attention:
Do not reuse the seal, replace it with a new one.
Apply Nissan MP Special Grease #2 to the lips of the oil seal and apply Nissan Differential Gear Hipoid Oil Super GL-5 80W-90 to the oil seal seating surface.
8. With a punch (special tool) press in the connecting flange.
9. Apply anti-rust oil to the threads and seating surface of the pinion nut. Tighten the nut to the required torque and adjust the preload (R1') drive gear bearing.
Pinion nut:
: 128-294 N-m (13-30 kg m)
Preload (R1’) pinion bearing: 0.79-1.27 Nm (0.08-0.13 kg m)
Attention:
Do not reuse the pinion nut, replace it with a new one.
Start adjusting from the lower limit of the pinion nut tightening torque.
If preload is too high, replace spacer and shim, retighten. Do not loosen the pinion nut, do not adjust the preload.
After adjustment, turn the connecting flange 2-3 turns in both directions and check that there is no extraneous noise or other abnormalities.
10. Apply a thin bead of Nissan MP Special Grease #2 to the O-ring and insert it straight into the pinion clutch.
Attention: Do not reuse the O-ring, replace it with a new one.
11. Install the selected shim.
12. Install the pinion clutch assembly, apply anti-rust oil to the threads and mounting surface of the mounting bolts, and tighten them to the specified torque.
: 26-33 N-m (2.6-3.4 kg m)
13. Check the play, preload and the shape of the contact patch in the meshing of the gear teeth, see above. Check total preload.
Total preload:
- If all oil seals are installed: P1’+0,44-0,47 N-m (0.045-0.048 kg m)
- Without transfer case oil seals and ring gear: P1’+0,34-0,37 N-m (0.035-0.038 kg m)
