Preparatory work
Remove the driver's airbag module.
Remove the steering wheel.
Remove the steering column cover.
Removing
Disconnect the steering wheel angle sensor connector, pull the coiled wire connector retainer, press the latch and disconnect the connector.
Note:
When reusing coiled wire, secure the wire with electrical tape so that it does not move against the fixed housing. This saves you the hassle of performing the neutral check procedure when installing the coiled wire.
neutral position (see fig.)... Carefully turn the coiled wire clockwise until it stops. Then turn it counterclockwise (about 2.5 turns), until the centering mark is aligned with the adjustment mark (the moving part is fixed in the neutral position with a stopper, it can be installed on the steering wheel without alignment after the stopper is removed).
When installing a three-spoke steering wheel, route the coiled wire harness as shown in the illustration.
Attention:
Install the steering wheel as follows: turn the front wheels to the straight-forward position. The R mark on the release grip must be facing down. The three tabs must align with the three holes under the steering wheel assembly. Make sure the coiled wire is in the neutral position and that the dowel pin to the left of the coiled wire is aligned with the hole under the steering wheel assembly.
Do not turn the coiled wire more than necessary. Do not overtighten (wire may break).
After installation, check if the system is working properly by observing the airbag warning light.
If the airbag warning lamp indicates a malfunction, use the self-diagnosis function or the CONSULT tester to clear the memory.
If the airbag warning light still indicates a malfunction, run system diagnostics. Repair defective components.
