2. Rotate the crankshaft one revolution in the working direction to set the piston of the first cylinder to the top dead center position.
3. Install the base [KV113BOO40 (Mot. 251-01) or similar] with a dial indicator [KV113B0050 (Mot. 252-01) or similar] as shown in the figure so that the indicator stylus rests against the surface of the cylinder block. Reset the dial indicator.
4. Install the dial indicator [KV113BO050 (Mot. 252-01) or similar] on the bottom of the piston and, turning the crankshaft from side to side, accurately determine the position of the top dead center.
Note. All measurements must be taken along the longitudinal axis of the engine to eliminate any errors associated with the possible inclination of the piston.
Attention. The dial gauge stylus must not be in the valve recess in the piston crown.
5. Measure the piston protrusion.
