Car Towing Precautions
- Be sure to use safety chains when towing your vehicle.
- Before towing a vehicle, make sure that the transmission units, steering and suspension are in good condition.
If any components are damaged, the vehicle must be towed using a support trolley or by fully loading onto a tow truck platform (single axle vehicles).
- Nissan recommends that you tow your vehicle in a way that prevents the drivetrain from rotating (front) wheels (single axle vehicles).
Single axle models
- It is forbidden to tow all-wheel drive vehicles (4WD) with any wheels resting on the road, as this can result in serious damage to the transmission and the need for costly repairs that are not covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
Nissan recommendations for towing
Towing a car with a drive on one axle (2WD)
Nissan recommends that you install front wheel trolleys or have your vehicle fully loaded onto a tow truck as shown in the illustration.
Attention.
- It is forbidden to tow vehicles equipped with stepless (CVT) transmission, relying on leading (front) or all-wheel drive, as this can cause serious damage to the transmission and costly repairs. If it is necessary to tow the vehicle with the rear wheels raised, the front wheels must always be supported by a special trolley.
- Towing the vehicle with the front wheels on a dolly: turn the ignition switch to «ACC» or «ON» (vehicles with Intelligent Key system) or in position «OFF» (vehicles without Intelligent Key system) and fix the steering wheel (using a belt, rope, etc.) in a straight line position. Move the selector lever or shift lever to the «N» («neutral»).
- When towing the vehicle with the rear wheels on the road without using the support trolley, be sure to release the parking brake.
Towing with the support of the rear wheels on the road
1. Set the ignition switch to position «ACC» or «ON» (for vehicles equipped with the Intelligent Key system) or in position «OFF» (for vehicles without Intelligent Key system).
2. Move the shift lever to the position «N» («neutral»).
3. Release the parking brake.
4. Attach safety chains before towing.
Towing of four-wheel drive vehicles (4WD)
Nissan recommends that you install wheel jacks under the front and rear wheels of your vehicle or have your vehicle fully loaded onto a tow truck as shown in the illustration.
All wheel drive models
Towing eyes
The towing eye is stored in the side storage compartment of the luggage compartment.
1. Remove the bumper cover using a suitable tool.
2. Screw the eyelet securely into the socket (see picture).
After using the towing eye, put it back in place.
Attention. It is forbidden to tow a four-wheel drive vehicle with any wheels supported on the road. This will cause serious damage to the transmission, which will require costly repairs to repair. The manufacturer's warranty does not cover such cases.
Releasing a stuck car
Attention.
- It is forbidden to stand near the tow rope when pulling out a stuck vehicle.
- Do not allow wheels to spin at high speeds, as this may result in blown tires and serious injury to persons. The components of the mission can overheat and be damaged.
Towing eyes are used to retrieve a vehicle stuck in sand, snow or mud if it cannot move under its own power.
- Use only the towing eye or hook, do not attach the cable to other parts of the vehicle. Otherwise, the vehicle body may be damaged.
- The towing eye or towing hook is designed only for pulling out a vehicle stuck in sand, snow, mud, etc. When pulling out a stuck vehicle, the tow hook and the towing eye are subjected to significant loads.
- Therefore, make sure that the towing cable does not deviate from the longitudinal axis of the vehicle.
- It is forbidden to apply lateral forces to the towing hook or eyelet, which occur when the cable is deflected to the side.
