Precautions when working with passive safety elements

Such elements of an additional passive safety system (SRS), such as airbags and seat belt pretensioners, in combination with seat belts, can reduce the risk or severity of injury to the driver and front passenger in some types of crashes. The system includes seat belt pretensioner switches and airbags with two levels of inflation for the driver and front passenger. The SRS system uses sensor signals to determine the degree of inflation of the airbag. The system may choose to deploy only one airbag, depending on the severity of the accident and/or the condition of the front passenger's seat belt (fastened or not).

Attention.

• To avoid malfunction of the SRS system, which could increase the risk of injury or death from an accident requiring airbag deployment, any service to the system should only be performed by an authorized NISSAN/INFIFITI dealer.
• Incorrect maintenance practices, including improper removal or installation of SRS components, can result in personal injury due to unexpected activation of the system.
• Do not use equipment for diagnosing the electrical circuits of the SRS system, unless specified in this Repair and Maintenance Manual. SRS wiring harnesses can be identified by yellow and/or orange wiring harnesses or their connector housings.
