The pilot bearing on the inside of the flywheel can be checked when installed by inserting your index finger into the bearing and rotating it from side to side while moving it back and forth.
If there are binding spots or excessive play, the bearing can be replaced. It is best to use a sliding hammer to remove the bearing. The flywheel can be installed or removed. Place a suitable adapter under the bearing inner race and place a sliding-faced hammer on the adapter. Knock out the bearing. Drive the new bearing into the flywheel until it is flush with the outside of the flywheel.
