Starter — removal and installation

Primera models have a positive gear starter that matches the power of the engine. The 1.6L engine starter has a direct drive, i.e. the starter power is transferred directly to the starter gear. Vehicles with a 2.0L engine have a starter that is equipped with a reduction gear to increase starting torque with the same starter size. This starter is also manufactured by Magnetti-Marelli.

Removal and installation

An accurate check of the starter must be carried out on a stand in an electrical workshop. To do this, remove the starter:

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

2. Raise the front of the vehicle.

3. Disconnect the electrical connections on the back of the starter.

4. Loosen the mounting bolts on the flywheel or torque converter housing and remove the starter.

5. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Make sure the cables are connected correctly.
