- Make sure the ignition is off before connecting the auxiliary battery (key turned to OFF).
- Make sure all vehicle electrical equipment is turned off (lighting fixtures, heater, windshield wipers, etc.).
- Be sure to wear protective goggles.
- Make sure the booster battery has the correct output voltage for your vehicle.
- If starting with a battery installed in another car, make sure that there are no points of contact between the cars!
- Make sure the transmission is in neutral (RKPP), or in position "R" (parking) (AT).
- If the auxiliary battery is of the serviceable type, remove the vent covers from the battery and cover the openings with a rag.
Connect the red wire from the Auxiliary Start Kit between the positive (+) terminals of both batteries. Then connect the second (black) wire from the kit first to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal and then to a well-grounded point on your vehicle (such as a bolt or bracket on the engine block, if possible within 45 cm from the battery). Make sure the wires do not touch any moving components in the engine compartment (such as fan blades, drive belts, etc.).
Start the engine on the booster battery, then, leaving it idling, turn on the heater blower motor (to maximum speed) or glass defroster to smooth out voltage peaks that can occur when disconnecting wires (do not turn on the lights, as significant power surges can lead to burnout of the lamps). Disconnect the wires in the reverse order of their connection.
Connect the wires from the Auxiliary Starter Kit in the order shown in the figure (note that the negative cable of the auxiliary battery is NOT connected to the negative terminal of the dead battery).
