The hub axle should be replaced if the bearing races on it turn, the nut thread is damaged, or the axle is bent. The rear hub must be removed.
1. On the reverse side of the brake shield, loosen the union nut of the wheel brake cylinder (on drum brakes) or remove the brake caliper. Collect the leaking brake fluid.
2. Unscrew the brake shield with brake pads or shield (on disc brakes) away from the hub axle and set aside without damaging the handbrake cable.
3. From the underside of the hub axle, unscrew the transverse and trailing arm bolts and loosen both bolts that secure the hub axle to the bottom of the suspension strut. Also detach the anti-roll bar to have more freedom of movement when working. Check the hub axle for wear at the bearing points, check the seal seating surfaces and threads.
4. Installation is carried out in the reverse order, taking into account the following points:
5. Place the hub axle on the spring strut without tightening it, and place a lift under the shock strut. Raise the shock strut while it is energized (the body will rise slightly from the supports) and tighten the bolts and nuts as shown in illustrations tightening torques when the wheels are on the ground.
6. Install the brake shield and tighten the bolts with a force of 33-45 Nm. The tightening is done crosswise. Do not stain the brake pads. Install a caliper on disc brakes.
7. Install the wheel hub as described in Section Rear hubs and wheel bearings.
8. Connect the brake line and bleed the brakes as described in Section Bleeding the brakes.
9. Lower the vehicle onto the wheels and tighten the transverse and trailing arm bolts and nuts as shown on illustrations tightening moments.
