There are noises coming from the rear wheels of the car
Tire noise. Check if the tires are the correct size for the vehicle.
Loose fastening of the disk on the axle shaft flange. Check the condition of the rim, wheel hub, wheel studs and nuts. Tighten fasteners or replace defective components.
The wheel is out of balance or the disc is bent. Balance the wheel or replace the disc.
Faulty brake components. Check the condition of the rear wheel brakes (see section on brake system troubleshooting). Replace defective components.
Faulty axle shaft and / or axle housing. Check and replace defective components.
Bent axle shaft and / or sleeve of the crankcase of the bridge. Check and replace defective components.
There are noises emitted by the main gear
Loose propeller shaft or cardan joint. Check, tighten the fasteners, or replace the defective hinge.
Lubricant level dropped. Check for signs of oil leakage, if any, eliminate the cause. Add the correct grade of oil.
The nut of the final drive gear flange has loosened. Lubricate the nut with sealant and tighten to the required torque.
Worn or damaged final drive components. Perform a major overhaul of the final drive.
The pinion shaft rotates but the vehicle does not propel
Damaged half shaft. Remove the axle shaft assembly, replace if necessary.
Sheared castellated bolts (slave) main gear gears. Remove the final drive assembly and replace the bolts.
Damaged differential gears. Perform a major overhaul of the final drive.
Note. If the axle shaft fails, remove the final drive assembly and check it for foreign particles and metal filings inside the crankcase. Clean the crankcase thoroughly.
Semi-axle fails again
Clutch used/functioning incorrectly. Change your driving style, check that the clutch is working properly.
Bridge sleeve bent. Replace rear axle housing.
The car is often overloaded. Try not to load the car beyond the allowable limit.
Lubricant loss occurs
Main gear drive gear seal defective. Check (see accompanying illustration). Replace seal, check flange surfaces.
Defective shaft seal. Remove the shaft and replace the seal.
There is a leak at the final drive housing gasket. Remove the final drive assembly and replace the gasket.
Leakage occurs through pores or cracks in the final drive housing. Make any necessary repairs or replace the crankcase.
Note. Before cleaning the front axle assembly to check for signs of oil leaks, check the crankcase vent hose for blockage (see accompanying illustration). if leaks do not occur when the axle is cold, drive the vehicle with the axle warmed up to normal operating temperature, then carefully inspect the crankcase for signs of leaks through the smallest pores and cracks.
