Effort of a tension of a driving belt of the steering pump
Note. The correct adjustment of the drive belt tension ensures that the latter will not slip, while at the same time not creating excessive loads on both the belt itself and the pump bearings.
The belt tension is measured in the middle of its straight section between the crankshaft pulleys and the steering pump. Firmly press on the belt at the indicated point with your thumb, the amount of deflection must comply with the regulatory requirements.
Bleeding the hydraulic system (pumping)
1. Make sure the system reservoir is filled with the correct grade of hydraulic fluid (see tables of sizes and adjustments at the end of the guide).
2. Jack up the front of the car and place it on jack stands.
3. Without starting the engine, quickly turn the steering wheel from left to right from lock to lock several times. Do not hold the wheel in extreme positions for more than fifteen seconds.
4. Check the liquid level in the tank. Top up if necessary.
5. If the fluid in the steering pump reservoir is excessively saturated with air (aerated), or there is increased pump noise, repeat the procedures described in the two previous paragraphs.
Removal and installation of hydraulic lines for connecting the pump of the hydraulic booster system with the steering mechanism
Note. After performing procedures that can cause air to enter the tract, the hydraulic system must be bled (see Primary Checks).
Return hydraulic line
1. The return line is made in the form of an ordinary steel tube connected to high pressure hoses with clamps. To replace the hose, it is necessary to loosen the mounting clamps, and then pull the hose off the fitting part of the tube.
2. When installing new hoses, their ends should be lubricated from the inside with transmission fluid (ATF).
3. The return line is connected to the steering mechanism by means of a union connector on a hollow bolt. Replace the copper sealing washers before connecting the connector components.
Pressure hydraulic line
1. The pressure line is a solid piece of pipe with hoses stretched over it. In the event of leaks, the entire line must be replaced.
2. Give a hollow bolt of the union socket on the steering pump and disconnect a line from the last.
3. Give bolts of arms near a pulley of a cranked shaft and the steering mechanism. Release the line from the brackets.
4. Give a hollow bolt of the union socket on the steering mechanism and disconnect a line from the last.
5. Remove the line from the vehicle.
Installation is in the reverse order.
Replace the copper sealing washers before mating the nipple connectors.
