Attention! Some of the models discussed in this manual are equipped with airbags - be sure to turn off the SRS when servicing components located near the airbags (see chapter Onboard electrical equipment).
General information
The shift lock system prevents the selector lever from moving out of position "R" and N" without depressing the foot brake pedal. With the exception of the simplest checks described below, the diagnosis of system failures should be entrusted to car service specialists.
Examination
1. Remove the center console (see chapter Body).
2. Walk along the wiring harness from the shift lock solenoid valve to the connector and disconnect the latter. Using a pair of jumper wires, apply battery voltage to the solenoid valve terminal - a distinct click should be heard.
Attention! Do not leave the valve energized longer than is really necessary for the test!
3. A defective solenoid valve must be replaced.
Component Replacement
Shift lock solenoid valve
1. Remove the center console (see chapter Body).
2. Remove the position indicator of the selected AT mode.
3. Disconnect wiring from shift lock solenoid valve. After inserting a thin rod into the front of the connector, wring out the locking tabs and disconnect the connector.
4. Turn out fixing screws and remove assembly of the electromagnetic valve.
5. Installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Key lock drive cable
1. To replace a broken key lock cable, remove the steering column cover and center console cover (see chapter Body).
2. Remove the lock plate from the lock cylinder, then release the upper end of the drive cable from the assembly.
3. Release the key lock cable sheath from the bracket at the bottom of the selector lever. Remove the retainer and disconnect the cable from the lever.
4. Release the slider from the regulator holder and remove the key blocking rod; when inserting the stem into the new cable adjuster holder, push it until it clicks.
5. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order to the dismantling of the components.
