Attention! Servicing of the exhaust system should be started only after its components have completely cooled down. Track reliability of fixing of the car in the lifted position.
The exhaust system of all models discussed in this manual includes a flexible section that is extremely sensitive to severe kinks - use caution when servicing the system.
1. The exhaust system consists of exhaust manifolds, exhaust pipe, catalytic converter, muffler, exhaust pipe, connecting tubular sections, mounting clamps, as well as support brackets and rubber loops, through which the assembly is suspended from the bottom of the car. Improper installation of components and sections of the system leads to an increase in the level of noise and vibration transmitted to the car body.
2. Regularly inspect the entire system for signs of corrosion, deformation and mechanical damage. Check fastener tightness. Violation of the tightness of the components and their joints is fraught with the ingress of exhaust gases into the vehicle interior. Defective components and sections must be replaced.
3. If the system is severely damaged by corrosion, a cutting torch may be required to separate its sections (alternatively, you can use a hacksaw or a pneumatic chisel - do not forget to wear safety goggles and gloves).
4. Repair of the system must be carried out in the following order:
- a) When removing components, move along the system path in the direction from the exhaust pipe to the engine;
- b) Lubricate the fasteners to be released with penetrating oil;
- c) Prepare the necessary replacement gaskets, suspension loops, clamps and fasteners in advance;
- d) Lubricate the threaded part of the fastener with an anti-seize sealant before installation;
- e) When installing components, make sure that there is sufficient clearance between the sections of the system and nearby suspension / body elements. Pay special attention to the correct installation and secure fastening of the heat shield of the catalytic converter. Remember that during operation, the catalytic converter heats up to very high temperatures and then cools down rather slowly, take your time, wait for the components to cool completely;
- f) Be sure to remove oxygen sensors with wiring connectors from the system before servicing the system.
