Removing
1. Loosen the wheel nuts. Jack up the back of the car and place it on jack stands. Remove rear wheels.
2. On models equipped with ABS, remove the rear wheel speed sensors. Remove the tie bolts and release the sensor wiring harnesses from the support brackets.
3. Disconnect the parking brake cables and remove the brake calipers and discs (see chapter Brake system). Tie the calipers to the coil spring bars.
4. If the rear axle is to be replaced, remove the hub assemblies with wheel bearings (see Section Removal and installation of assembly of a back nave with the wheel bearing).
5. Jack up the rear axle with one jack under the middle, or two under the ends.
6. Unscrew the lower ends of the shock absorbers from the bridge (see Section Removal, condition check and installation of racks of a back suspension bracket).
7. Disconnect the transverse torque rod from the vehicle chassis.
8. Give nuts and take axial bolts of fastening of trailing arms of a suspension bracket. With the help of an assistant, carefully remove the rear axle assembly with torque rod from under the vehicle.
9. Assess the condition of the torque rod bushings, control rod and trailing arms. Replace defective components.
10. The transverse torque rod with control rod can be removed from the rear axle assembly by loosening the appropriate fasteners. When reinstalling the components, make sure that the stem is facing up with the arrow markings facing upwards, with the control stem bushing facing the smaller hole toward the stem.
Installation
1. Installation of components is carried out in the reverse order of their dismantling. Make sure all fasteners are tightened to the correct torque.
Note. The final tightening of the shock absorber fasteners and torque rod should be done after the suspension elements have been brought to normal working height - use a jack. The tightening of the nuts of the axle bolts of the trailing arms must be carried out with the suspension unloaded (in the lower position of the components).
2. The tightening forces of the threaded fasteners of the components of the brake mechanisms are given in the Specifications for the Chapter Brake system.
3. Replace the wheels, lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the wheel nuts to the required torque (see chapter Settings and ongoing maintenance).
