Using an anti-lock device
Press and hold the brake pedal. You should not try to avoid blocking yourself by pressing and releasing the brake pedal, as this will only increase the stopping distance.
ABS automatic test program
The anti-lock brake system consists of electronic sensors, electric pumps and electromechanical (solenoid type) computer controlled valves. The computer has a program for checking the entire system, which automatically starts each time the engine is started and works while the car is moving at a slow speed forward or backward. During the operation of the test program, you can hear a characteristic tapping and feel "beat" brake pedal, which is normal and does not mean any malfunction. If, during the test, the computer recognizes any malfunction in operation, it disables the anti-lock brake system and turns on the control lamp on the instrument panel "ANTI-LOCK" In this case, the car's brakes continue to work normally, but without the anti-lock system.
In the event of a light bulb "ABS" both during the inspection procedure and while driving, have your Nissan dealer repair the anti-lock brake system as soon as possible.
ABS system operation
The ABS system does not work at speeds below 5-10 km/h. (This limit speed range may vary depending on road conditions). At the moment when the ABS system determines that the condition of one or more wheels is close to blocking, a special servo (under the engine hood) begins to quickly build up and release pressure in the hydraulic brake actuator (like a quick brake pump). While the servo is running, you may feel the brake pedal beat and hear noise from the vibration of the servo under the hood. This is normal and indicates the correct operation of the ABS system. The operation of the ABS system indicates dangerous road conditions and the need for increased attention.
Carefully!
The anti-lock brake system greatly facilitates driving when braking on slippery roads and is able to prevent wheel lock in difficult and rapidly changing conditions. But it must be remembered that on a slippery road, the braking distance is always longer, regardless of the operation of the ABS system, and the risk of a traffic accident is always higher. It is unacceptable, relying on the operation of the ABS system, to show negligence and inattention when driving a car. Remember that the driver is responsible for the safety of passengers and pedestrians.
It must be remembered that braking performance also depends on the type and condition of the tyres.
When changing tires, all 4 wheels must be fitted with the same prescribed type of tires.
Before installing a spare tire, additionally check that its size and type correspond to those indicated on the tire data sheet. For information on the location of the tire checklist, see chapter "Technical information".
