Models with airbag
Before removing the steering wheel, remove the airbag module and coiled cable (see chapter «Safety system»).
When installing the steering wheel, the coiled cable must be properly aligned.
To do this, set the wheels in a straight ahead position and check that the cable is in the neutral position. The neutral position corresponds to a turn of 2.5 turns from the extreme right position. Align match marks ().
WARNING: If installed incorrectly, the coiled cable can be pinched when turning the steering wheel.
In addition, the cable can be pinched when turning the steering wheel for a greater number of revolutions than intended by the design (e.g. when removing the steering gear or lower joint). Normally, the cable can be rotated from the neutral position 2.5 turns to the right and left.
Use a steering wheel puller to remove the steering wheel (see section «Special tools and fixtures»).
Models without airbag
1. Remove an overlay of the switch of a sound signal. To do this, insert a Phillips screwdriver into the hole on the underside of the spoke and remove the clip, then remove the overlay with your hands.
2. Remove the steering wheel using a special puller.
When installing the steering wheel, apply multipurpose grease to the entire surface of the turn signal off pins and horn switch sliding rings.
