Removing the airbag and coiled cable
WARNINGS:
- Before working on the security system, turn off the ignition, disconnect both wires from the battery and wait at least 10 minutes.
- Work on the side of the airbag.
- Special bolts are coated with a fixing compound. After unscrewing, replace them with new ones.
- Position the airbag module with the trim panel facing up.
- Do not attempt to disassemble the airbag module or coiled cable.
- Keep grease away from coiled cable and airbag.
1. Remove the steering wheel lower cover and disconnect the airbag module connector.
2. Remove the side covers. Loosen the special bolts using a T50 Torx socket with a central hole. The airbag can then be removed.
3. Place steering wheel in neutral position.
4. Disconnect a socket of the switch of a sound signal and turn away nuts.
5. Using a puller, remove the steering wheel.
6. Remove a casing of a steering column.
7. Disconnect the connectors and remove the four screws. The spiral cable can then be removed.
Installation
1. Set the wheels to the position corresponding to the movement in a straight line.
2. Make sure the coiled cable is in the neutral position (the neutral position is determined by turning to the left about 2.5 turns from the extreme right position). Align the alignment marks.
3. Attach the coiled cable connector and tighten the screws. Install the steering column cover.
4. Thread the wires through the steering wheel. Connect the horn switch connector and secure the coiled cable to the steering wheel.
5. Tighten the steering wheel nut to 29-39 Nm.
6. Install the air cushion module and tighten the special bolts.
7. Connect the airbag module connector.
8. Install covers.
9. Connect the wires to the battery and turn on the system self-diagnosis mode.
10. Turn the steering wheel fully left and right to ensure that the coiled cable is in the correct position.
If the airbag warning light flashes or stays on in normal (not diagnostic) operating mode of the system, this may indicate a pinched cable. Run the self-diagnosis again and if a problem is found, replace the cable.
